Training for Childcare Providers

As well as childcare qualifications, there are other qualifications that childcare providers are required to have:
 
First Aid:
 
It is recommended that the First Aid certificate to complete is the 12 hour Paediatric First Aid Certificate.  This must be renewed every three years. 
 
At all times, at least one person caring for the children must have a current paediatric first aid qualification.  The ratio of trained persons to children should never fall below 1:10.

Level 2 Food Safety:
 
You are required to complete a Level 2 Food Safety in Catering course if you will be handling or preparing food in your capacity as a childcare worker.
 
This certificate must be renewed every three years.

Safeguarding:
 
Level 1:
  
All childcare staff should complete a Level 1 Safeguarding course.    These courses are occasionally run by Monmouthshire County Council.   The Level 1 Safeguarding certificate needs to be renewed every two years. Please email sianhickey@monmouthshire.gov.uk for dates.
 
 
Level 2 and 3:
 
The Designated Officer and Deputy Officer at childcare settings must also complete a Level 2 Safeguarding Course.  It is recommended that Childminders also complete a Level 2.  When your Level 2 is due to be renewed, you can then complete Level 3 if you wish.  All Safeguarding courses are run by the South East Wales Safeguarding Board.  Please visit http://www.sewsc.org.uk/training/ for dates and details of how to book.
