Our Children’s Services & Community Development Team have partnered up and joined forces with local comprehensive schools, Papyrus and GAVO to run a series of engagement events focusing on young people and their families.
Events
- Monmouth Carnival – 30th June 2024, 2pm – 4:30 pm, (in collaboration with Monmouth Comprehensive) @Monmouth Carnival
- Caldicot Comprehensive – 12th July 2024, 9am – 5pm (open to public 3:00pm)
- Chepstow Comprehensive – 7th October 2024, 9am – 4pm (open to public 3:15pm)
- King Henry VIII – April 2025 TBC (dates to be confirmed in line with new 3-19 school opening)
The events will showcase local community groups and provide information on support services for children, young people, and families. They will also provide a forum for conversations about what matters to children, young people, and families.
At the event, organisations and agencies will provide information and expert knowledge on youth support, family support, finance/cost of living pressures, housing, being a carer/unpaid carer, disabilities and additional needs and advocacy, among many others!
As part of the events, Papyrus, a national charity for the prevention of youth suicide, will provide an introduction to their work in reducing the number of young people who take their own lives by shattering the stigma surrounding suicide and equipping young people and their communities with the skills to recognise and respond to emotional distress. They’ll talk about their work supporting young people and share information about their HOPELINE247, Tel: 08000684141 a 24-hour helpline dedicated to supporting young people.
The events, held at the schools, will be accessed by young people during the school day and open to families and the community after the school day has finished (3pm for Caldicot and 3.15 for Chepstow). The PAPYRUS talk will take place around 4-4.45 p.m.
The event, which will be held as part of Monmouth Carnival, will welcome young people, their families, and the community throughout the afternoon.
