In September 2024 a new Welsh-medium primary school opened to serve both Monmouth and the surrounding towns and villages. Ysgol Gymraeg Trefynwy shares the school site with Overmonnow Primary School and from September will welcome pupils from nursery age to Year 3 pupils.
The new school welcomes pupils from Monmouth and the surrounding areas, including Usk and Raglan. A map showing the new catchment area can be found here, to find out if you are in the catchment area for the new Welsh medium school visit; https://maps.monmouthshire.gov.uk/localinfo.aspx.
In line with the home to school transport policy free transport will be available for primary age pupils who live more than 2 miles from the school and reside within the catchment area.
For the academic year 2025/2026, Ysgol Gymraeg Trefynwy will offer full days for 3 and 4 year olds in line with the school opening hours. Rising 3 pupils will be welcomed in January and April. In future, it is hoped there will be a Welsh medium Cylch Meithrin on the school site that is able to provide wrap around childcare for 3 and 4 year olds, as well as Flying Start childcare for 2 year olds, so the school nursery will then revert to part time sessions of 2 ½ hours a day in line with the rest of Monmouthshire
