Training & Development
We invest in our employees to make sure you have the right skills and experience to provide a first class service to the people of Monmouthshire.
The training includes professional development, IT and administration and management development. You will have access to a supervisor who will support you in your continued professional development in your chosen role.
All staff receive regular 121/ Supervision and an annual appraisal as well as ongoing support as required from their manager.
Relocation Package
A discretionary scheme for payment of relocation expenses to newly appointed permanent employees who are involved in home removal as a result of taking up their appointment with the council.
Annual Leave
All employees are entitled to 24 days annual leave (or pro rata thereof) each completed year. This entitlement rises to 31 days per year (or pro rata thereof) after completion of 8 years continuous service in local government or related services (in addition to the 10 statutory holidays).
You will also have the option to purchase annual leave. This scheme is intended to assist employees in balancing their home and work commitments. The purpose of the Purchasing of Annual Leave Scheme is to provide employees with additional flexibility in respect of planned time off work. This scheme provides the opportunity to “buy” up to 74 hours (pro rata where appropriate) additional annual leave in each leave year.
Local Government Pension Scheme
We offer membership to the Local Government Pension Scheme. Contributions range from 5.5% to 12.5% of pensionable pay based on earnings. If you are transferring from another local government employer your service will be aggregated. A new employee may also be able to transfer their benefits from other schemes.

- Menopause Workplace Pledge – MCC has signed the Menopause Workplace Pledge showing our commitment to supporting colleagues and raising awareness of the impact of menopause. We hold regular monthly Menopause Cafes – both face-to-face in each of the main towns – and also virtually via TEAMS. Everyone is welcome to join. Sharing experiences about the physical and emotional effects of the menopause, giving each other support informally.
- Eye Test If you are a visual display screen equipment user the council will reimburse your eye test and will also contribute towards your spectacles if they are required as part of your job.
- Dyslexia support We have our own Dyslexia Support Officer who will be able to support and provide information to council staff members on all matters relating to dyslexia as well as providing a dyslexia screening service.
Coaching
Staff have the opportunity to request a coach from our ever-growing Coaching network. There are many benefits to coaching, both personally and professionally. A coach can help people identify goals, become more effective in their roles, support people to become better leaders or achieving career goals and promotions.
There are also opportunities for staff to become coaches themselves, along with creating great relationships with others in the Coaching network and in support of continuous Professional Development.
Armed Forces Friendly
The Monmouthshire Armed Forces Community Covenant is a voluntary statement of mutual support between a civilian community and its Armed Forces community at the local level. This encourages support for the Armed Forces community working and residing in Monmouthshire and to recognise and remember the sacrifices made by members of this Armed Forces community, particularly those who have given the most. This includes in-Service and ex-Service personnel, their families and widow(er)s throughout Monmouthshire.
