Update: 18 November 2024 – Frogmore Street

Following completing the remedial work to make Frogmore Street safe after the fire on Sunday, 10th November 2024, Monmouthshire County Council can confirm that Frogmore Street is now open for pedestrians. 

Boarding has been placed along the areas of the street affected by the fire. 

Businesses are now able to re-open. 

We encourage all residents and visitors to adhere to these restrictions for safety purposes. 

Please note all vehicle-restricted access remains in place as stated below.


Taxi Rank

Due to the changes in Frogmore Street and surrounding areas. A temporary taxi rank has been placed at the bottom of Frogmore Street on the right-hand side of the Cenotaph. 


Update: 15 November 2024  Frogmore Street and surrounding area update:

Following the Fire on Sunday, 10 November, at Frogmore Street, Abergavenny, we are implementing further safety measures in the area.

Please find details of the work that will be undertaken below.

  • Friday, 15 November:  Fencing will be erected along Frogmore Street.
  • Saturday, 16 November: Concrete barrier to be established along Frogmore Street.
  • Sunday, 17 November: Completion of fencing and barriers, re-opening pedestrian access through Baker Street and Frogmore Street.

Road closures and restricted pedestrian access will remain in place until further notice and all necessary works to make safe are completed. All vehicles, pedestrians, and businesses should follow the current access arrangements below. Information will be updated once the following work has been completed.

Update: 13 November 2024- Road Closures

Following the fire in Frogmore Street, Abergavenny, on Sunday, 10th November, Monmouthshire County Council has implemented road closures in the area to support the ongoing multi-agency response. 

Due to an ongoing investigation by Gwent Police and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, these road closures will remain in effect until further notice due to safety concerns for the public. 

Currently, the road closures are as follows:

Frogmore Street

  • No Vehicle access to Frogmore Street.
  • Pedestrian access up to the Baker Street and Frogmore Street junction only.
  • Pedestrian access to the southern end of Frogmore Street is via the A40 only.  

Baker Street

  • No vehicle access past the junction of Princes Street. 
  • Authorised pedestrian access only. 

High Street

  • Delivery vehicle access between 4pm – 10am, restricted to a maximum weight of 7.5 tons. 
  • No through vehicle access, exit via Lion Street.
  • Full pedestrian access. 

Changes to the road closures will be updated as investigations are concluded, and we’ll update the public via our website and social media channels.
