Monmouthshire County Council has taken the decision to temporarily close the Borough Theatre in Abergavenny and the council-run museums following advice from the UK government to avoid any unnecessary social contact.
Shows due to take place at the Borough Theatre will be suspended with immediate effect until at least 30th of April.
Museums in Abergavenny, Chepstow and Monmouth will close on Thursday 19th of March until further notice.
Customers will be contacted in relation to event cancellations and postponements. Teams are currently contacting people in the shows’ calendar order and customers are asked to be patient while the teams work through the volume of calls.
While the situation is ever-changing and developing, many of the council’s key services remain open including the community hubs and leisure centres.
Councillor Paul Jordan, who has the responsibility for museums and the Borough Theatre, said: “We understand that this decision to close our museums and the Borough Theatre comes as a disappointment but the health and safety of our communities is our main priority. We continue to monitor the situation and we will aim to get these services reopened as soon as it’s appropriate to do so. These are unprecedented times and the wellbeing and safety of our customers and our staff is paramount in making this decision. We appreciate your support and look forward to welcoming you back to the Borough Theatre Abergavenny again very soon.”
