A severe flood warning for the River Wye in Monmouth has been declared by Natural Resources Wales.

This means water levels are deemed extremely dangerous and are predicted to reach unprecedented levels.

Residents living on the River Wye and on nearby roads have been evacuated.

Monmouthshire County Council has closed the Wye Bridge in the centre of the town and are warning pedestrians and motorists to keep away from the area.

Anyone affected by the bridge closure or flooding is asked to use the rest centre that has been set up at the Shire Hall in the centre of Monmouth.

The council continues to work partner agencies, including Natural Resources Wales and the emergency services to assess the situation and ensure all the affected residents are informed and supported.
