Monmouthshire County Council’s flooding priority for remainder of the 17th of February is the Wye River running through the Monmouth town.
The levels are currently running high and modelling suggests it will rise further in next few hours. The council is prioritising sandbagging efforts to residential properties in the area.
The public are being advised to keep a safe distance from the river over the next 24 hours, with the levels expected to reach dangerous levels.
Evacuations have already taken place from areas posed as vulnerable with
a rest centre being set up at the Shire Hall in Monmouth. This rest centre is available to anybody displaced from their home and staff are there to help.
Riverside Park, Hadnock Road, Redbrook Road, Beech Road and Wyesham Road are areas which to be particularly vigilant while the warning remains in place.
As water levels continue to rise it is likely that the Wye Bridge will be closed this evening. No precise time at the moment but likely to be 18:30 – 19:00 hours
