COURSE DESCRIPTION:

I currently run pottery classes on a Tuesday evening or a Friday morning.

You will learn the different methods in hand building including slabs, coils and freeform. Suitable for beginners, as well as returning students.

The focus of the course is to develop hand-building techniques, working with earthenware clays. We will also cover other pottery skills, such as clay preparation, finishing, use of slips and glazing. I also encourage strengthening your ideas by looking at pottery, drawing and aim to visit Cardiff Museum each year.

ANY MATERIALS/EQUIPMENT REQUIRED BY STUDENTS:

Students need to bring an apron.

MEET THE TUTOR: Jane Blair

I did my ceramics training at Cardiff Art College followed by my teaching certificate. I have produced ceramics at different levels ever since, depending on teaching and family commitments.

I have always enjoyed the challenge of adult and children classes as no two classes are ever the same. I like my groups to be self-directed so after learning the initial methods students keep me on my toes with their ideas. Although if I think it is all becoming a bit dull I am not adverse to spicing it up with some challenges.
