The removal of 20mph repeater signs across the county is part of an ongoing initiative to ensure that all speed limit signage is in full compliance with current legislation.
As these are restricted roads, the speed limit in these areas are now 20mph by default. This is indicated by the presence of a compliant streetlighting system. Therefore, repeater signs are no longer permitted.
A streetlighting system is considered compliant if streetlight columns are positioned no more than 200 yards (183 meters) apart. In areas where there is a 20mph speed limit but a compliant streetlighting system is not present, 20mph repeater signs will remain in place.
