DIGITAL SWITCHOVER HAS ALREADY BEGUN….
Landline phone calls have traditionally been delivered over an analogue network .This network is outdated and becoming harder and more expensive to maintain, so it needs to be replaced. The UK is moving to a digital telephone network by the end of 2025 and so telecommunications providers are switching to digital voice set-up. This will not affect your telephone number.
Your telecommunications provider will contact you, if they have not already done so, to tell you when they will be changing your landline network.
As a customer of @assistivetech Monmouthshire (formally known as Careline), this may affect the current service we provide to you, depending on the type of lifeline equipment you have been supplied with. Not all equipment will need to be ungraded, as you may have already been supplied with a digitally enabled lifeline unit.
There will be, however, small areas in rural Monmouthshire where digital signal is low. We are therefore advised that the upgrade in these areas will be postponed until the identified solution is fully tested.
If you are dependent on your landline phone – for example, if you do not have a mobile phone or do not have mobile signal at your home – your provider must offer you a solution to make sure you can contact the emergency services when a power cut occurs. For example, a mobile phone (if you have signal), or a battery back-up unit for your landline phone.
This solution should be provided free of charge to people who are dependent on their landline– talk to your provider about options.
We are currently working with telecommunication providers to identify those landlines which will still need to be upgraded.
Please be assured that, Monmouthshire County Council, as your lifeline service provider, know whether your equipment will need upgrading. If it does, you will be contacted only by our @assitivetech Monmouthshire Installation Team to arrange this at the appropriate time.
