Monmouthshire County Council is committed to ensuring that town centres remain vibrant and welcoming places that meet the needs of the local communities, businesses and visitors. 

The Monmouthshire Town Centre Property Improvement Grant provides financial support for improvements to properties in the designated town centres of Abergavenny, Caldicot, Chepstow and Monmouth.

The council is now inviting interested parties to complete an expression of interest form, available until 9 February 2024. The Form can be found here: https://www.monmouthshire.gov.uk/placemaking-and-regeneration/

The scheme aims to achieve an enhanced and integrated approach to the physical regeneration of Monmouthshire town centres. It is funded through the Welsh Government’s Transforming Town Placemaking Grant and Monmouthshire County Council.

The schemes accepted are:

• External and internal improvements to bring vacant commercial floor space back to positive use.
• External shop front improvements with no internal work.
• Conversion of vacant or underused upper floors into new residential accommodation.
• Works to enable temporary meanwhile or pop-up uses in currently vacant premises in town centres.

The scheme is open to property owners within the eligible boundary or leaseholders with a minimum outstanding lease of seven years (or five years for external works only where a grant is less than £50,000).

Limited funding is available and projects that deliver significant regeneration benefits for the town centre will be prioritised. Applications will be considered as they’re received. Therefore, we recommend that applicants send in their expression of interest as soon as possible.
