What is Micro Care?
Micro care is a new way of delivering care.
A micro carer is a self-employed care worker who provides flexible, personalised support and care to citizens who live in their local area. Micro carers can support people locally by providing care to those in receipt of direct payments and/or those who are able to self-fund their own care.
The type of support a micro carer provides will depend on their experience, training and what they’re comfortable delivering.
The type of care and support services that a micro carer might offer are:
- Home care services
- Respite for carers
- Leisure and wellbeing activities
- Cleaning and other domestic duties
- Pet care
- Help with gardening
- Companionship
Finding a Micro Carer
There are many benefits to having your own micro carer. Using a micro carer will give you greater control over how your care is delivered without the responsibility of becoming an employer. The micro carer will be responsible for their own public liability insurance, paying their tax, National Insurance, sick pay and pension.
If you have been assessed by Social Services as being eligible for care and support, you can choose to receive direct payments and employ a micro carer.
If you are not eligible for funding or do not want to be assessed, you can pay for a micro carer privately.
If you’re looking for a care and support service and would like to make an enquiry, you can contact a micro carer directly for more information:
The Micro Care Directory contains a list of micro carers who have met the quality standards laid out in Monmouthshire’s Micro Care Code of Practice. All micro carers are responsible for the information they enter onto the Dewis website about their micro care business and for keeping this information up to date.
Whilst all micro cares on the directory have committed to the standards laid out in the code of practice, and the micro care team have checked their public liability insurance, HMRC registration, relevant training certificates and DBS certificate, we cannot guarantee the quality of any listed services or accept any liability for them.
We welcome all feedback and any issues that may arise regarding a micro carer on the directory will be investigated. Failure to adhere to the code of practice may result in the micro carer being removed from the directory.

The Micro care directory will hold information about all micro carers in Monmouthshire who have agreed to the code of practice. This directory will be used to link micro carers with local people looking for care and support services.
