Coleg Gwent, in partnership with the Gwent Regional Partnership, will be facilitating a series of engagement events with local social care providers across four Coleg Gwent campuses throughout September and October 2022.
Monmouthshire County Council will be present at Newport Coleg Gwent campus on the 26th September, with face-to-face ‘Placement to Progression’ events providing, not only the Council with the opportunity to support the development of skills and talents within the local communities, but providing potential carers with placements within the Council’s Social Care and Health team.
The emphasis on these sessions is to encourage students to take up work placements and other part-time employment opportunities, being the first time Monmouthshire County Council’s Social Care and Health team have provided health and social care students with work experience within adult services in Monmouthshire.
Cllr. Tudor Thomas, Monmouthshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Social Care, Safeguarding and Accessible Health Services said: “Events like this are so important for the future of our community’s social care. There are many fantastic opportunities within our incredible Social Care and Health team, with these placements providing an alternative recruitment route for Monmouthshire services, potentially providing great local employment opportunities for young people in Monmouthshire.”
The Gwent Regional Partnership Board has said: “Taking a student on a work placement will help Gwent to develop a ‘whole system approach to health and social care’ that includes a motivated and sustainable health and social care workforce as set out in Welsh Government’s long-term plan for health and social care: A Healthier Wales.”
You can talk to Monmouthshire County Council’s Social Care and Health team at Coleg Gwent’s Newport campus on the 26th September between noon-2pm. The campus can be found at Nash Road, Newport, NP19 4TS.
