On Friday, 21 March, The Rainbow Trust building in Chepstow was officially reopened following refurbishment.
Funded by Monmouthshire County Council, Chepstow Town Council, the Welsh Government’s Transforming Towns Placemaking Grant Programme and the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
The building, which was in a poor state, has been transformed into a vital resource for the community.
The refurbishment not only enhances the building’s aesthetic appeal but also ensures that the valuable services provided by both charities can continue uninterrupted. The Food Co-operative and the Chepstow Community Fridge are crucial lifelines for many residents, offering access to affordable food and fostering a spirit of cooperation and support among locals.
As one of the first buildings seen when entering Chepstow, the enhancements significantly contribute to the town’s overall feel and appeal.
Monmouthshire County Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Planning and Economic Development, Cllr Paul Griffiths, said: “The reopening of the Rainbow Trust building is a great occasion. The funding has allowed The Rainbow Trust to transform the building to continue providing a home to vital community services to the community of Chepstow.
“Collaborating with Chepstow Town Council, the Welsh Government, and the UK Government to secure funding for a key location in the town demonstrates the achievements of working together.”
Chepstow Town Council’s Mayor, Cllr Tudor Griffiths, said Chepstow Town Council is very proud of the work on the Rainbow Trust building which enhances a common route into the town, and the work undertaken inside the building is a superb expression of the community spirit that is increasingly typical of Chepstow.
Andrew Webster, one of the trustees of the charity that manages The Rainbow, said, “We are so grateful to the funding bodies that have enabled new life to be breathed into our old building. The refurbishment has made it fit for purpose and the great work of Family Action and Chepstow Community Fridge fulfil our vision of serving the local community.”
