Monmouthshire is tackling the winter blues by distributing 120 ‘sunshine curry’ meal kits to five venues supporting food provisions across the county.

Funded by the Monmouthshire Food Partnership, this initiative underscores the county’s commitment to addressing food insecurity and supporting community well-being. The meal kits are designed to be easy to prepare, offering residents a warm and nourishing dish to brighten their day.
The kits have been delivered to venues including:
- Cwtch Angels
- Food Club @ Wyesham Warren
- Food Club @ Chepstow
- Pobl Group
- Magor & Undy Community Fridge
Featuring a creamy sweet potato, chickpea, and spinach curry, the kits aim to lift spirits and provide comforting meals during this challenging time of year.

Community food provisions play an incredible role in supporting residents, especially during challenging times.
Collaborating with local organisations and volunteers can address the impact of food poverty, strengthen community connections and build resilience locally.

This effort builds upon two previous successful meal kit campaigns: chicken noodle meal kits distributed for National Noodle Day on 6th October 2024, delivering a one-pot, family-friendly dish, supported by Rowse Honey and stovetop apple streusel for National Apple Day on 21st October 2024.
The latter used of 100kg of windfall apples rescued with the help of volunteers from Laurie James Community Orchard and Growing Space Orchard at Mardy Park.
One recipient shared their feedback, saying: “This was just perfect, fast, easy, and really tasty. Will definitely be making it again.”
Monmouthshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Equalities and Engagement, Angela Sandles, said: “These meal kits are a fantastic idea and will help residents struggling with food poverty.
“The recipe and ingredients are simple, and the result is a tasty and nutritious meal that everyone can enjoy. “Strengthening connections and building support are crucial to support our most vulnerable groups through tough times they may face.”
