Monmouthshire County Council encourages residents to mark Ukrainian Independence Day, Saturday, 24th August, by Making Noise For Ukraine.
The international campaign is an opportunity to celebrate Ukraine’s bravery and resilience. People can do this by clapping, cheering, playing an instrument, singing a song, stomping their feet or ringing a bell.
Council leader, Cllr Mary Ann Brocklesby, commented: “Many Ukrainians are living and working in Monmouthshire, having been welcomed by residents under the Homes for Ukraine scheme. We have been inspired by their dignity and their willingness to be with us in community. They have enriched our lives. This day is an opportunity to show solidarity with neighbours who have fled the war by publicly showing your support.”
Cllr Angela Sandles, Cabinet Member for Equality and Engagement, added: “It’s vital that we must not be silent in the face of Russia’s aggression. The people of Monmouthshire have always given a wonderful welcome to those fleeing war and persecution. It would be great to see residents joining this international campaign showing their support by making some noise and posting videos to social media using the hashtag #MakeNoiseForUkraine.”
The campaign is being supported by NATO and the UK Government. Download a resource pack produced by the UK Government from https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/66c48243b75776507ecdf463/Make-Noise-For_Ukraine_International_Campaign-Guide_v1.pdf
